Where are the rains???

As I type here on my laptop, it is raining cats and dogs outside my window. It is the first real, heavy rain of the season for me.. It has been nearly three months since I have shifted to Gurgaon, but I have not had the taste of a real downpour. I have not even bought a raincoat or an umbrella.

I begin to think that this is a regular feature here in this part of India. But no, say localites, it has never been like this before. And as I enquire with my friends from other parts of India, it is the same situation there also.

Growing up in Gujarat, one of the main points of the year used to be the heavy rains and the flooding caused by them. The thrill of riding a bike through the potholed streets in heavy rain, with your specs covered with water, with the result that you can't see anything ahead, is something.
Pushing your bike through knee deep water, the first rain bath, the holidays in school due to the heavy rains, sipping tea along with "Bhajiya", the big frogs that used to suddenly come out from somewhere during their rains and their croaks that filled the nights, the fireflies that used to collect near every tubelight, the occassional rainbows, the visits to the city river to watch it overflow, the fresh smell of earth after the first rain, I miss them all... Where are the rains???

I have had no romantic flings until now but I am sure that even if I had one, it would have had some memories associated with rain.. No wonder the rains are a favourite with the Bollywood crowd..

I would have composed a ode to the rains, but my limited, extremely limited poetic abilities prevent me from committing such a disaster.

Meanwhile the rains have reduced to a drizzle and I find from my window that 1 or 2 couples have come out to enjoy the rains....  But still...

And by the way,  Pichle Saat Dino mai maine 2 pen, 1 pair of socks aur 1 study handout hai khoya. :)

Till Next Time

it rained in chennai day before!! chennai, mind you, used to be a dry and dusty, sunny and sweaty, dull and dreary (ok now that's my prejudice writing :P) place at this time of the year and now its raining and how! although, it could get back to normal weather in two days time... i so agree with trinaa!
